We all work with word documents. I’m pretty sure that at least once you may have lost a word file simply because you didn’t save the progress or your computer or due to power failure or maybe due to some other reason. It’s really annoying when you work so hard and all the progress that you have done in such a long span of time simply goes in vain. Well, if you’re using Word 2007 then there’s a way you can recover unsaved word files. Here’s how you do it:

Click on the Word 2007 orbit button on the top left corner and click on word option.

On the left hand side click on the Advanced tab. Now, on the right hand side, check the options ‘Always Create Back-up copy’ and then ‘Allow background Saves’. Click ok. This will help you re-store all your files instantly. The back-up files of word are saved as .wbk. Restoring files from these files is easy, so you don’t need to worry much.

Once you’re done with the above things. You need to go to the temporary files and recover the files. Here’s how you do it. You can search for your files:

For XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Data\ Microsoft\Word.
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\ Temp.
In the above addresses change ‘username’ to the windows username. Here you can find many of your unsaved temporary files. If you system crashes open your Microsoft Word once again, it will restore the data immediately.

iPhone and iPod Touch users had no other alternative to Safari. But, to be honest, I personally didn’t like the Safari browser in the iPhone. I don’t know how many of you will agree on this point. I felt, there were two major drawbacks in the iPhone Safari. Firstly, it was too slow and secondly, it had very few features. I’m a big Opera fan and I was eagerly waiting for Opera to be released on iTunes.

I downloaded and installed Opera on my iPhone 2G and found it to be really awesome. It was definitely a great choice over Safari when it came to speed. Moreover, there were several exciting features that I noticed. The speed dial feature and tabbed browsing feature was really great. The settings page was pretty neat and easy to use. Now, that I have spoken about all the pros I would like to point out one major drawback. I found that scripts don’t well sometimes and sometimes page doesn’t display properly. But, I guess we should give them enough time as it’s the first version and I’m sure that they will release better updates that will eliminate the cons.

Many years back when computers weren’t as advanced as they are now, we had monitors that displayed only one colour on a black background. These monitors were known as monochrome monitors. Here’s a short tutorial that shows you how to get a monochrome command prompt window in Windows 7.
Firstly, click on the start menu and in the search box type cmd and hit enter.
Now, command prompt window will launch. Right click on the title bar and click on properties.

In the Properties window, click on the colors tab and click on the screen text button. On the right hand side, under selected color values, change Green to 255.


Once done, click ok. This should change the text of the command prompt box to green. It will look some like the above. Voila! You now have a monochrome command prompt box.

Most of us use the copy paste function to paste lot of data from the internet into Microsoft Office Word. But, we like to keep the same font throughout the document. It’s annoying when you paste the text which has some other font and you need to change it later. So, to avoid text being pasted with formatting, here’s a simple tip.

If you’re using Microsoft Office Word 2007 then you can disable formatting with ease. To do so, click on the Menu orbit button and select word options.
Now, on the left hand side click on the advanced tab.
On the right hand side, under ‘Cut, Copy and Paste’, you’ll find three options- Pasting between documents, Pasting between documents when style definitions conflict and Pasting from other programs.

In the drop down menu, ‘Keep source formatting’ is the default option that’s selected. To disable pasting text with formatting you need to select ‘Match Destination formatting’ or ‘Keep Text Only’ in the drop down menu.
